Boutique Hotel the George Opens in College Station

The George, a 162-guest room boutique hotel, recently opened in College Station. The property is one of Houston-based Valencia Group’s newest Texas hotels and the company’s second in College Station. In fact, The George’s sister Valencia property, Cavalry Court, opened in November 2016 is literally across the street. Design elements at The George feature soaring windows which highlight brick accents, contrasting colors, exposed ceilings, rich wood tones and unique custom-built fixtures and furniture.

Taking its name from notable “Georges” such as Mitchell Energy founder and philanthropist, George P. Mitchell and former President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, the hotel is designed to reflect a blend of authentic Texas charm and English elegance. Abstract art installations have a modern feel while representing the area’s agricultural and railroading history. Bright white sheep adorned with graphics of the Houston graffiti artist GONZO247 greet guest in the lobby.

“The George is that perfect intersection of the region’s historic hospitality and tasteful, elegant and modern aesthetic,” says Valencia Group President Doyle A. Graham Jr. “It is art and luxury and fine dining coupled with that sense of warmth and welcome people expect in the south.”

Guest rooms feature custom-designed beds, deluxe Egyptian cotton linens, branded bathrooms with bath amenities by Gilchrist Soames, workspaces, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions, and generously stocked minibars. A daily continental breakfast including Katz Coffee is complimentary for guests. A VIP suite offers roughly 1,900 square feet of space and balcony views of Texas A&M University, Kyle Field, and the Bonfire Memorial.

Poppy, the restaurant at The George, is a reference to the nickname given President George H. W. Bush by his grandchildren. Poppy features a menu of traditional Texas flavors and offers seating in the open pavilion as well as porch dining. Guests can enjoy a list of whiskeys and custom cocktails at 1791. The bar is named for the year the Whiskey Rebellion tax protest began and offers views of the pool, live music and a choice of intimate or more spacious seating.

The George features approximately 5,800 square feet of flexible meeting space, including the 5,236-square-foot Statesman Ballroom which can accommodate up to 550 guests and a boardroom that can hold groups of up to 18 people. Additional property amenities include a fitness center and a courtyard featuring a swimming pool and fire pits. With Valencia Group’s Cavalry Court just 60 feet away, meeting planners have a combined total of more than 10,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor space available for events.
